Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I have my roof cleaned?

There are many reasons to have your roof cleaned.  The most important being the longevity of your roof and home. The Algae that grows on your roof spreads and as it does, it loosens granules that are an important part of your roofing system.

Health is also a reason to have your roof cleaned. The Algae spores are carried by wind and transferred to other areas of the home. This can greatly affect people with allergies.

Looks are the #1 reason people have their roofs cleaned. It is a great way to improve curb appeal which increases property value, attracts possible home buyers, and it keeps the HOA happy.

Will my plants die?

No. We take every precaution to insure we do not harm your landscape. Your plants will be watered before, during and after the cleaning process to insure your plants are safe.

Will it damage my roof?

No. We use a soft wash application that is very gentle on your roof. Our chemical cleaning uses a Sodium hypochlorite based chemical that kills the algae, mold and mildew from your roof as well as remove dirt and stains without damaging the surface. We do not rinse your roof after cleaning it. The pressure from rinsing can cause unneeded granule loss. We leave the rinsing to mother nature. After the next rain your roof will be even cleaner.

Is there anything I should do prior to the cleaning?

Only under extreme dry conditions. We ask that you run your sprinkler zones that cover your plants around the house in the morning before we arrive.

Is there anything I need to do after the cleaning?

We recommend that you run your sprinkler zones that cover your plants the morning after the cleaning. In some cases the morning dew can drip onto plants from the roof and cause damage. We also recommend that you water your plants and surrounding areas if the first rain is a light drizzle.

What's On Your Roof?

Most of the stains and streaks are a form of algae known as

Gloeocapsa Magma. Once attached to the roof, this algae/

fungus feeds on the dead organic matter of the asphalt shingle

or tile. As the algae/fungus breaks down the asphalt shingle,

the ceramic granules protecting the surface of the shingle are

loosened and begin to fall off. This causes the roof to

deteriorate prematurely and diminishes the roof's abilities to

reflect heat rays. If not treated, this roof algae/fungus will

reduce the life of your roof, diminish your home's curb appeal,

increase your cooling expense and could result in a violation

letter from the Association.

Asphalt shingle roofs can be safely restored to their natural

color with the use of a custom blend of chemicals for cleaning.
